Established by friends and students of Dr John D Young in 1996, the prize aims to support Hong Kong’s international development efforts while shaping its role on the global stage. Donations have included support from Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as well as HSBC Bank.

Past winners of these prizes have made significant contributions to Hong Kong studies. The IBP Best Article Prize on Global Hong Kong Studies seeks to foster new theories, concepts and methods in studying Hong Kong history, politics, society and culture – it is open to academics working in Hong Kong studies from across China or elsewhere – regardless of location.

Hang Lung Properties hosted an insightful fireside chat during the ceremony with Dr Owen H Ko, 2004 HLMA winner and Assistant Dean (Research) of Faculty of Medicine at University of Hong Kong; and Ms Ewina Pun, 2012 HLMA winner and doctoral student at Brown University. Both shared their journeys as they discussed the transformative power of mathematics in their fields of endeavor.

As of Thursday, the original prize pool for the New Year Snowball draw has been increased from HK$100 million to HK$138 million, raising its potential jackpot amount to up to HK$140 million – the highest for any televised lottery drawing held by Hong Kong Jockey Club ever seen before!

This year’s jackpot increase can be attributed to increased prize money across all classes, with an extra HK$1 million top-up for Class Three races in addition to their already allocated HK$1 million bonus in Class One and Two races. Prizes will be distributed over five months until 30 May 2023 when HKJC security and customer service staff conduct thorough checks of materials used from boxing to transporting, while measuring, weighing and X-ray examination of balls daily will ensure fairness during their draw process.
