Hong Kong is internationally acclaimed for its blend of Western and Chinese cultures and for being the gateway between Asia and the West. This cultural exchange can be seen in its numerous prizes that have been given out annually across various categories in Hong Kong – see list below for an overview.
Hong Kong Prize winners have been announced, receiving a total of HK$2 Million sponsored by BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP), established in 2022 to encourage scientific research as well as to use research achievements for the benefit of society.
Champion riders from each of the nine categories will receive cash prizes, as well as trophies and certificates for their efforts. Furthermore, the winning trainer will also be offered an incentive scheme of HK$200,000 towards attending Longines International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley later in December; runners-up will receive HK$100k while third place will get HK50K.
Generocity has launched this year’s competition for the Hong Kong Global Development Prize 2023 to solicit innovative ideas on how Hong Kong could become an Official Development Assistance (ODA) hub and influence global development trends by becoming an ODA hub. Their aim is to showcase Hong Kong as an international cooperation platform and achieve sustainable development goals globally.
The Hong Kong Global Development Prize 2024 competition this year attracted over 500 entries from across the world. A winner will be chosen and receive a grant of HK$500,000 to implement their project, as well as be invited to present at a seminar hosted by Hong Kong Association for Promoting International Cooperation on Hong Kong’s international development efforts and its role on the world stage.
HKFA (Hong Kong Film Award) is an annual film prize presented by the Hong Kong Film Critics Association (HKFAC). Winners are determined by an independent panel composed of thirteen members representing 13 professional film bodies in Hong Kong; with the first place winning $360,000 while second-place will take home $260,000 as a cash prize.
BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize
Established in 2022 to foster scientific research within Hong Kong city limits and contribute to its development, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was expanded for the inaugural time this year with five scholars from Hong Kong universities receiving this year’s prize in artificial intelligence and robotics; life and health sciences; new materials/energy research/advanced manufacturing/fintech.
This award recognizes excellence in medical research conducted by young Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. To be considered, applicants must be principal authors of original articles that have been peer-reviewed; preferable studies must have had an impactful clinical or observational design affecting medicine as opposed to review articles, case reports, or letters to editors which do not qualify.
