The eighth Inter-school Competition of Study Projects on Hong Kong History and Culture hosted by the Hong Kong Museum of History and Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture has reached a successful conclusion, with prize presentation ceremony taking place today (September 25). It aimed to increase students’ knowledge of Hong Kong history and culture as well as encourage active learning outside class through in-depth research of historical development trends with changes in society.
A panel of experts carefully evaluated and selected winners based on their outstanding achievements in various fields. The top 10 entries each received an award of HK$20,000 while subcategory winners each earned HK$10,000; best entries from secondary schools also received Merit Awards.
Prizewinners of HKGNA Masterclasses and concerts will have an opportunity to participate in further performances and workshops. Furthermore, those who did not make it past the semi-final but displayed great promise or potential will receive Honorable Mention Certificates as recognition for their efforts.
At the ceremony, the Club also announced that prize money for next season has increased by an unprecedented HK$8 million to reach a record HK$64.8 million. Prizes at 1600m or beyond for Class 1 races will increase by two million while Griffins prize pool is increased 8 percent to reach HK$950,000 per race; furthermore, both legs of Four-Year-Old Classic Series races – BMW Hong Kong Derby 2000m and Hong Kong Classic Mile 1600m) will receive prize pools totalling five million each and increase by one million each from this season’s total.
The Spirit of Hong Kong Awards celebrate everyday heroes who demonstrate selflessness, hard work and perseverance against all odds to make an impactful contribution in their community. Though less known, these individuals represent the true spirit of Hong Kong – be they good Samaritans or caregivers going the extra mile in helping others.
