The Hong Kong Prize and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize

The Hong Kong Prize was created to recognize individuals working to improve the city and its residents’ lives. Each year, an awards ceremony takes place and winners receive both monetary prizes and book vouchers as awards. Nine Hong Kong artists made the Sovereign Asian Art Prize shortlist this year, marking an all-time high since its establishment in 2024. Pakistani artist Sameen Agha won this year’s Grand Prize with her sculpture A Home is a Terrible Place to Love which featured collapsing house elements like cardboard boxes as they dismantled over time.

Residents will have a chance to win one million Hong Kong dollars in lucky draws designed to encourage them to download anti-scam apps on their devices.

Hong Kong’s police force are conducting lucky draws worth up to HK$3 Million ($385,311) as part of their new scam-detection app Scameter mobile, due to a sharp rise in fraud cases reported this year. They announced this campaign this week as they reported 12 per cent more such scams compared to last year for the first seven months alone.

This year’s Inter-School Study Project Competition on Hong Kong History and Culture hosted by the Hong Kong Museum of History and Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture has awarded nearly HK$2 Million in prizes to student study projects. Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School earned first prize with their study report about pig farming during 1967 riots; La Salle College and Tak Oi Secondary Schools won second prizes by studying Canton-Hong Kong relations during the 8-Year War of Resistance against Japanese occupation respectively.

The Bank of China in Hong Kong initiated the HK Prize for Science and Technology Innovation to honor scientific achievements with potential to have a meaningful impact on society. It encompasses all fields of science and technology in Hong Kong – artificial intelligence/robotics/life/health sciences; new materials/energy; advanced manufacturing/finance technologies etc – drawing research participation from over 150 scientists representing over 30 universities/institutions.
